CREATIVES OF COLOR EXHIBITION
Role: Creative Producer/ Fabricator
Objective: Collaborate with Artists to realize their vision for a total of 4 separate exhibits over 6 months at the WNDR Museum Chicago. Fabricate, curate, and install unique set elements.
NIKKO WASHINGTON:
BATTLE ROYAL
Nikkos exhibit explored the struggle of the black athlete in America, while also combining his boxing talent with his artistic talent. The several large construction elements like the triangular boxing ring and floating heavy bag that presented unique challenges, and the more technical aspects of the Muhammad Christ Air piece taught me a lot.
ALEX CARTER:
ACRES OF UNTOLD HISTORY
Chelsey Carter-Sanders wanted to explore the history of denim and its relation to slavery in America. We brought in elements like real soil and prairie grass to compliment the cotton-field vinyl wall wraps to give the illusion of the field. Our centerpiece was an oversized version of of a denim vest from Alex Carter Brand’s (of which Chelsey is the CEO) newest collection - suspended in mid air and rotating delicately in a spot light.
TUBZ:
ETICA
Family and community was the heart of Tubz exhibit. The mission was to emulate his Abuela’s living room. We sourced authentic set dressing from Facebook Marketplace and resale shops in Pilsen, including a couch literally out of someones grandmothers living room. This all was a backdrop to the custom framed prints of Tubz family, and three acrylic sculptures reading “Etica, Amor, Poder”. On opening night, we had low riders parked out from of the museum.
SHANI CROWE:
DOME
Shani wanted interactivity. A scan of her head was 3D printed for the main sculptural element, and custom made LED “braids” extended from the crown of the bust. From there, we carefully arranged and secured each tube to the wall creating a canopy of neural braids. As guests would enter the exhibit space, the sound of their voice, steps, and shuffles would interact with the LEDS - making them dance with color.
